However, the severity of his condition necessitated that he call in a home doctor who provided IV fluids and administered morphine to alleviate his suffering.
Tragically, Corey’s condition worsened shortly after the home visit; his oxygen levels dropped to critically low levels. In a desperate moment, he expressed his fears about his financial situation, saying, “I’m just going to die out here. I don’t have the money to keep paying these people.” This prompted his friends to seek a more affordable medical facility, leading them on a harrowing four-hour journey to Mérida.
Upon arrival at the new facility, doctors discovered that one of Corey’s ribs had completely separated and was pressing against his lung, necessitating the drainage of nearly three litres of blood from his chest cavity. In total, Corey underwent three additional life-saving surgeries during an 18-day hospital stay before being discharged.
With medical expenses exceeding £100,000, Corey now finds himself in dire financial circumstances. Friends have reported that he has depleted his savings and maxed out his credit cards in the face of this extraordinary crisis. Chambers remarked on the disparity between fame and personal safety nets, emphasising that despite his celebrity status, Corey’s situation is one of vulnerability and hardship.
Chambers further highlighted the emotional toll this incident has taken on Corey, stating that he is still not physically strong enough to return to the United States for additional medical treatment. “This fundraiser is our lifeline to get him through this,” Chambers noted, adding that it has been difficult for Corey to ask for help due to his independent nature.
