Rodríguez arrived in the U.S. in 2021 on a tourist visa and subsequently applied for political asylum in 2022, citing threats received due to her reporting on armed and militant groups in Colombia. Her attorney, Joel Coxander, stated that she has been diligently following all legal protocols in her quest for citizenship. However, her status has recently come under scrutiny after ICE labelled her a “flight risk” for allegedly missing two appointments—though her legal team contends this is a misunderstanding.
