Reflecting on her experiences, the 27-year-old actress revealed that she battled severe acne throughout her adolescence, which was compounded by painful periods. “I have very sensitive skin and had acne my whole teenage life,” Edgar-Jones shared during the Vogue video, which aired on 3 March. The actress emphasised how difficult it was to manage both her skin issues and menstrual symptoms, admitting that her skin was often a source of distress.

In her quest for effective skincare, Edgar-Jones discovered that La Roche-Posay was one product that did not aggravate her sensitive skin. She endorsed the brand wholeheartedly, stating, “The only thing that didn’t irritate my skin was this La Roche-Posay, so I love it and highly recommend.” Nevertheless, it was her diagnosis of endometriosis that would help explain the turbulence her body was experiencing.

Edgar-Jones explained that the diagnosis came as a relief, as it not only clarified the painful symptoms she had endured for years but also provided context for her fluctuating skin health. Describing her experience, she stated, “For so long, I had such painful periods and really, you know, volatile skin. It was definitely a relief to find out why I was going through it.”
Endometriosis is a chronic and often debilitating condition wherein tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, leading to severe pelvic pain, heavy menstruation, and, in some cases, infertility. This condition has also been linked to acne, with research indicating that women who experience severe acne during their teenage years face a 20% greater risk of developing endometriosis.
In discussing how she manages her acne alongside her endometriosis, Edgar-Jones highlighted the importance of her skincare regimen, noting that she has discovered products that work well for her. “I’ve found over the years, like, skincare that really works for me,” she observed. Additionally, she emphasised the value of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, stating, “drinking lots of water, and when I eat well — especially when I try and not eat as much dairy — that really helps.”
Looking back at her teenage years, Edgar-Jones candidly remembered how her acne made her feel. “It was all I could see when I looked in the mirror,” she admitted, with a hint of nostalgia. However, she also offered a more uplifting perspective, reflecting that in retrospect, beauty transcended physical appearance. “When I look back at photos or videos, it’s funny that so much of the beauty of you — the inside and how much, you know, the confidence that you wear — can really help.”
The actress encouraged others facing similar skin challenges to consider a broader view. “I would say to anyone with acne, I know it’s all you can see, but it’s not what everyone else can see,” she advised. Her message is one of hope and resilience, underscoring the importance of recognising one’s intrinsic value beyond outward appearances.
Edgar-Jones’ honesty about her struggles with endometriosis and acne serves to raise awareness about conditions that are often overlooked. By sharing her journey, she aims to empower others who may be facing similar challenges, reminding them that they are not alone in their experiences. Her words resonate with many, illustrating how personal struggles can greatly impact confidence and self-perception, yet also lead to growth and understanding.
As she embarks on new film projects, including her role in “Twisters,” Edgar-Jones continues to articulate the significance of self-acceptance and healing, offering an inspiring narrative for her fans and those who may relate to her story.
