Jace Patrick was admitted shortly before celebrating his third birthday, having tested positive for flu, RSV, pneumonia, and strep throat simultaneously. Jace initially exhibited mild cold symptoms, attributed to a simple runny nose and a cough, according to Garrett. However, his condition swiftly deteriorated, culminating in an emergency situation when he stopped breathing. The family rushed their son to the nearest hospital, where a concerning diagnosis revealed he was suffering from multiple severe infections.
As the medical team worked to stabilise Jace’s health, it became apparent that the compounded infections were beginning to severely impact his heart’s function. “All the things combined had started to shut down his heart,” Garrett explained.
