Grimes, who portrayed Kayce for five seasons on “Yellowstone,” initially believed that his time with the character had come to an end following the series finale in December 2024. Reflecting on this transformative experience, he remarked to PEOPLE, “It was seven years of playing a person that I’ll never see again.” However, he soon found that the prospect of the spinoff was still on the horizon, leading to a rekindling of his role as Kayce.

When first approached regarding the spinoff, Grimes expressed some reservations about where Kayce’s journey could evolve. In a candid interview, he shared that while he was uncertain at first, an intriguing concept eventually presented itself. He stated, “We definitely wanted to make sure to give it a real story and make it interesting and make it believable,” emphasising the importance of depth in the narrative. He continued, “If it was just like, ‘well, he’s happy’ — we’re just going to watch him be happy? That’s not very cool.”

The actor’s excitement about the new storyline is palpable, as he believes it will effectively engage audiences. The initial episode is titled “Piya Wiconi,” which sets the stage for the unfolding drama.

In addition to Grimes, the cast includes several notable actors, such as Arielle Kebbel, who plays Belle Skinner, a fellow member of Kayce’s Marshals team. In a recent interview, Kebbel praised Grimes, referring to him as “a badass” and highlighting the fresh perspective he brings to his character. She stated, “It’s so cool to work alongside him, but also see him in action,” signalling an exciting dynamic that viewers can expect to see in the series.

New episodes of “Marshals” are slated to air every Sunday at 8 p.m. ET. This project marks a significant milestone for creator Taylor Sheridan, as it is his first drama series on CBS, despite the previous successes of his work on the Paramount Network and Paramount+.

The release schedule for the first season has been confirmed, with new episodes following the premiere on 1 March.
