Whataburger Employees Fend Off Restaurant Attacker with a Fry Basket and Trash Can in Viral Video

A man in Texas has been taken into custody following an incident of violent behaviour at a fast-food restaurant. Anthony William Newhuis, 41, has been charged with assault after he allegedly attacked a staff member at a Whataburger in Paris, Texas, during an altercation that escalated drastically.

The confrontation unfolded around 22 February when police received reports of a disturbance at the restaurant. According to authorities, Newhuis was reportedly intoxicated when he entered the establishment and began to verbally harass the employees. After several warnings to leave, he allegedly threatened to return and assault the manager once police departed from the premises.

It is reported that Newhuis later followed through on his threat, returning to the restaurant and assaulting the manager, striking him multiple times with his fists. The escalation of the situation was captured in a video that has since gone viral, featuring a courageous employee defending himself and others by striking Newhuis with a trash can. Additionally, another staff member intervened, attempting to ward off the attacker with a deep-fryer basket, as tensions intensified within the establishment.

Police officers soon arrived at the scene and managed to locate Newhuis in the restaurant’s parking lot, where he was found with visible injuries and bleeding from his head. He was taken into custody without any further incident. Once apprehended, Newhuis faced charges not only of assault causing bodily injury but also of criminal mischief. This latter charge stems from an alleged act of flooding his cell while in custody at Lamar County Jail.

Following his arrest, Newhuis was released the next day after securing a $2,000 bond related to the criminal mischief charge and a $2,500 bond concerning the assault charge. The legal proceedings are still ongoing, with a court date yet to be established for the alleged offences.
