County Worker on the Way to Clear Roads During Blizzard Among 2 Killed in Head-On Crash

Tragedy struck on February 22 in Pennsylvania, where two men lost their lives in a catastrophic two-vehicle collision. Identified as Edward A. Segreaves, aged 59, and Lucas A. Snyder, 22, both hailing from Lower Nazareth, the men were fatally injured in an incident that occurred during adverse weather conditions related to an impending blizzard.

The Northampton County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities of the victims, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. According to local reports, the accident took place at approximately 5 p.m. along Nazareth Pike, specifically at the intersection with Gradwohl Switch Road. Initial investigations by the Colonial Regional Police Department indicated that one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, with authorities yet to determine whether the severe weather had any bearing on the crash. At the time of the incident, snow was reported to be falling as the region braced for a snowstorm.

Coroner findings revealed that both Segreaves and Snyder were the sole drivers of their respective vehicles, and they passed away from multiple blunt force injuries. The manner of death has been categorically ruled as accidental.

Segreaves was a long-time member of the Public Works Department in Wilson Borough. Mayor Donald Barrett took to social media on February 24 to express his condolences and highlight Segreaves’ commitment to the community. Barrett described Segreaves as a stalwart of public service, mentioning his 25 years of dedicated work to ensure the safety and quality of the local infrastructure during emergencies.

In his heartfelt message, Barrett stated, “Ed was one of the best, serving our community with pride, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to doing the job right.” He further lamented the loss, stating that Segreaves’ death was deeply felt throughout the borough. Alongside his tribute, Barrett also shared a GoFundMe campaign launched by Segreaves’ family to honour his memory and aid in covering funeral expenses.

The GoFundMe page expressed the profound shock and heartache that Segreaves’ family is enduring following his sudden passing. The page noted, “Ed was not only a loving father but also a friend and mentor to many. His kindness, generosity, and sense of humour touched everyone he met, and his absence is deeply felt by all who knew him.” It was highlighted that Segreaves leaves behind four children.

Lucas Snyder, the other victim, was a recent high school graduate, having completed his studies at Nazareth Area High School in 2022. His family described him as a passionate individual with diverse interests, including football and baseball, as well as martial arts and dance.

An obituary for Snyder noted that he was currently pursuing a criminal justice programme at Northampton Community College. It also highlighted his love for animals, particularly the family dog and a pet rabbit. A devoted supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, Snyder fulfilled his dream of attending a live game, a memory cherished by his family and friends.

Snyder is survived by his parents, girlfriend, and numerous relatives who will keenly feel the impact of his untimely loss. The outpouring of grief from the community reflects the deep connections the young man fostered throughout his life.

As investigations continue into the crash, both families are left to navigate the heart-wrenching aftermath of their loved ones’ passing, while the community mourns the loss of two individuals whose lives were cut short in an instant.
