The family of five-year-old Jude Platts is seeking financial support to establish a memorial dedicated to their beloved son who tragically passed away due to a rare and aggressive infection. The young boy, who lived in Liverpool, England, lost his life unexpectedly on New Year’s Eve after developing complications initially mistaken for a common stomach bug.

Jude’s ordeal began shortly before Christmas 2025 when he started experiencing vomiting. His family initially believed he was dealing with a minor stomach virus, given the absence of a fever. However, the situation escalated dramatically when Jude suffered a seizure later that same day. Concerned for his welfare, his family took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors quickly identified that his condition was far more serious than they had realised.

Throughout the night, Jude’s health deteriorated. He became partially paralysed and continued to experience seizures, prompting medical professionals to place him in a medically induced coma to assess the severity of his condition. Tests revealed concerning levels of brain swelling, and the prognosis was grim, with doctors estimating only a five per cent chance of survival.
In a heartbreaking revelation, medical scans diagnosed Jude with streptococcal pneumonia meningitis, a severe and life-threatening infection that causes swelling of the protective membranes surrounding the brain. His older brother, Adam Platts, described the overwhelming shock of the situation, stating that the medical team had never encountered an infection that affected the brain so speedily and severely.
As New Year’s Eve approached, the prognosis continued to worsen. After being informed that Jude had no remaining brain activity, the family faced the unimaginable decision to withdraw life support. Surrounded by family, Jude passed away, leaving his loved ones heartbroken. Adam expressed his grief, emphasising the irreplaceable joy and light Jude brought into their lives. “He had an infectious personality, and he could light up any room,” Adam remarked. “Jude has always been a fighter; he defied so many odds.”
In honour of Jude’s spirit and resilience, Adam has initiated a fundraising campaign through GoFundMe to create a commemorative space that reflects Jude’s unique interests and the joy he brought to those around him. The family’s intention is to craft a memorial that goes beyond a conventional gravestone, aiming instead to celebrate Jude’s life in a way that resonates with his passions.
The campaign seeks to raise funds for a specially designed tribute that portrays the essence of who Jude was. Adam is determined to ensure that Jude’s memory is preserved in a way that is meaningful and personal. He emphasised the desire for this memorial to be a vibrant space filled with items and themes that encapsulated Jude’s character.
As they navigate this challenging time, the Platts family hope to find solace in the support they receive from the community. They believe that building a memorial will not only honour Jude’s memory but also reinforce the love and joy he shared during his short life. Adam has expressed gratitude for any assistance provided, stating, “We want to ensure that he is remembered in a beautiful way, just as he deserves.”
The tragic story of Jude Platts serves to remind us of the fragility of life and the profound impact that love and support can have during difficult times. As the family continues their fundraising efforts, they aim not only to create a lasting tribute but also to inspire others about the power of community in times of sorrow.
