2 Surfers Successfully Rescued from Rip Current in Elaborate Quick-Rappel Mission

On Saturday, February 21, two surfers found themselves in a perilous situation at Cape Kiwanda Beach in Oregon when they were swept up by a rip current. The incident elicited a swift response from the Nestucca Rural Fire Protection District, which deployed resources to the scene in what was described as a potential high-angle rescue operation.

This allowed them to safely reach the stranded surfer on the cliff, assist him in climbing down, and escort him back to safety at the parking lot. Remarkably, both surfers ultimately declined medical attention following the incident.

While their identities have not been revealed, officials expressed gratitude for the positive outcome of the rescue. In a statement, the Nestucca Rural Fire Protection District said, “We are thankful for a safe resolution and the teamwork that made it possible.” Their relief was palpable, highlighting the potential for serious repercussions that such incidents could entail.
