Nurse Left Paralyzed after 15-Foot Fall in Costa Rica

A young nurse from Massachusetts, Kiara Diaz, 29, is currently in recovery following a harrowing incident during her vacation in Costa Rica. The accident occurred when Diaz was hiking at an abandoned mansion in the resort city of Jacó called El Miro, where she tragically fell through the floor, dropping 15 feet below.
According to a GoFundMe campaign set up by Diaz’s friend, Samantha Cruz, the fall resulted in “devastating” injuries to Diaz’s body. Cruz mentioned that Diaz was exploring the country and enjoying the experience with two friends from nursing school when the unexpected fall occurred, abruptly altering the course of their trip.

Currently, Diaz remains paralyzed and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Costa Rica. Due to the extent of her injuries, she has been deemed unfit to travel back to the United States at this time. The path to recovery for Diaz is expected to be challenging and uncertain as she continues to receive medical care and rehabilitation in Costa Rica. Cruz expressed the immediate goal of arranging a medical flight to safely transport Diaz back to the US, where she can receive further treatment and start her rehabilitation process closer to her loved ones.
With the support of well-wishers and the community, the GoFundMe campaign has raised $21,652 thus far, with a target of $100,000 to cover Diaz’s medical expenses, rehabilitation, and travel costs. A significant portion of the funds will aid in facilitating Diaz’s return to the United States for continued treatment.
