A well-known grocery chain has issued a recall for two of its mixed nut products over fears of potential Salmonella contamination. Wegmans, the supermarket chain in question, announced the recall affecting two specific batches of mixed nuts that were sold in their stores as well as online.
The recall has been initiated for Wegmans’ Deluxe Unsalted Mixed Nuts, with both 34-ounce family packs and 11.5-ounce standard bags being included in the safety notice posted by the supermarket on December 2. Customers who have purchased the affected products are advised to return them to the service desk for a full refund.

The larger 34-ounce tubs can be identified by UPC 0-77890-42131-4, a “Best By” date of July 28, 2026, and a lot number of DC 58041. On the other hand, the 11.5-ounce bags carry UPC 0-77890-42135-2, a “Best By” date of August 10, 2026, and lot number DC 58171. These numbers and details can be found on the packaging of the products.
Salmonella contamination poses serious health risks, as the bacteria can lead to Salmonellosis, the most common type of bacterial food poisoning in the United States. Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting. While most cases resolve without medical intervention, vulnerable populations like infants, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk.
The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) highlights that Salmonella infection occurs when the bacteria bypass the body’s natural defense mechanisms and reach the intestines. This can result in damage to the intestinal lining, leading to symptoms like cramping and fluid loss through diarrhea. Wegmans has urged anyone who has purchased the recalled products to discontinue use immediately and return them for a full refund.
As of now, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the affected mixed nut products. Nevertheless, the supermarket chain is taking precautionary measures by recalling the impacted lots to prevent any health issues. It is essential for consumers to prioritize food safety and follow such recalls to avoid any potential health risks.
Food recalls are not uncommon in the retail industry, and swift action must be taken to protect consumers from potential harm. It is crucial for supermarkets and food manufacturers to adhere to strict quality control measures to ensure the safety and well-being of their customers. Stay informed about product recalls and prioritize your health when it comes to food consumption.
In conclusion, food safety should always be a top priority for both businesses and consumers alike. By staying vigilant and proactive in response to recalls, we can collectively work towards a safer and healthier food environment.
Remember to always check product labels, observe expiry dates, and follow storage instructions to reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses. Stay informed, stay safe, and prioritize your health and well-being when it comes to food consumption.
