A recent incident at a luxury hotel in London has gone viral after protesters poured piles of horse manure under the Christmas tree inside The Ritz London. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, December 3, captured the attention of many as a video of the act circulated online.

According to a press release from a group called Take Back Action, described as a “nonviolent civil-resistance group,” three individuals made their way into the lobby of The Ritz London around noon on the mentioned day. The protesters reportedly deposited a large pile of horse manure under the iconic hotel’s Christmas tree as an act of protest.

In a shared video, the protesters can be seen wheeling in luggage, which is later unzipped to reveal plastic sacks filled with manure. The clip shows the individuals emptying the contents of the bags underneath the Christmas tree, prompting immediate intervention from hotel staff. The footage captured two staff members removing the protesters from the lobby.
Following their removal, the protesters reportedly stood outside the hotel entrance, holding signs with messages such as “INEQUALITY IS S—” and “TAX THE RICH.” The Metropolitan Police later confirmed that they received a report of criminal damage at the hotel and found horse manure in the lobby. However, no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
One of the demonstrators, Ellen Redwood-Brown, a 23-year-old healthcare professional, expressed her frustrations by stating, “The billionaires, corporations, and corrupt politicians running Britain don’t care about us.” She highlighted the struggles witnessed while working in the National Health Service, citing examples of people being unable to secure appointments amidst doctors working long shifts.
Another protester, Tom Barber, a 65-year-old former doctor, journalist, and community worker, addressed the concentration of power among a small group of wealthy individuals, emphasizing the widening wealth gap caused by their actions. The group behind the protest, Take Back Power, aims to push for the establishment of a permanent citizen’s assembly in the UK, granting the power to tax extreme wealth and address issues in the country.
As the video of the protest circulated on social media, it garnered mixed reactions from users, with some condemning the act as vandalism and urging the protesters to face legal consequences. Despite the varied responses, the protesters remained committed to raising awareness about societal inequalities and advocating for change.
When approached for comment, The Ritz London did not respond immediately to requests for a statement on the incident. As the investigation unfolds, the repercussions of this bold act of protest continue to spark discussions on wealth disparity and social activism.
The impactful demonstration at The Ritz London serves as a reminder of the ongoing tensions surrounding economic inequalities and societal injustices. In the heart of a luxury hotel, the clash between protesters advocating for change and the status quo highlights the growing calls for a fairer and more equitable society.
