The conflict between the two women originally started outside Fritanga Pinolandia on November 26, where they were panhandling. The situation quickly escalated, leading to the violent confrontation that unfolded inside the restaurant. Rodriguez, who was arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, had been released on her own recognizance just 13 days prior following an arrest for cocaine possession in close proximity to the restaurant. Despite listing her residence as “homeless” in the arrest affidavit, Rodriguez continued to be involved in altercations, raising concerns about her well-being and actions.

Law enforcement officers, including Deputy Charles Castillo and Sgt. Anthony Rodriguez, swiftly responded to the incident and apprehended Rodriguez as she attempted to flee. The suspect claimed self-defense, alleging that the victim had been abusive towards her. However, detectives investigating the case were able to obtain a statement from the victim, who recounted the events leading up to the violent attack. The victim witnessed Rodriguez asking for money outside the restaurant, which she suspected was being used to purchase illicit substances, leading to a confrontation that turned physical.
The severity of the attack was captured on video, showing the intense moment when Rodriguez aggressively approached the victim with a cutting instrument, making menacing threats. The victim, a Black woman, found herself in a harrowing situation as Rodriguez continued to stab her, causing significant harm. Despite Rodriguez’s attempt to flee the scene and dispose of evidence, law enforcement was able to recover the scissors used in the attack, further solidifying the case against her.
The restaurant manager, Bernardo Ruiz, expressed concerns about the incident, highlighting the existing challenges with homelessness in the area. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to address the issue and ensure the safety of both residents and businesses in Miami-Dade. The incident shed light on the complexities of homelessness and its impact on community safety, prompting a call for increased support and interventions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As investigations into the stabbing incident continue, the community remains on edge, grappling with the aftermath of a violent encounter that unfolded in a seemingly mundane setting. The confrontation serves as a stark reminder of the underlying issues faced by individuals experiencing homelessness and the importance of addressing these challenges with compassion and urgency. As authorities work to ensure justice is served in this case, it is crucial to recognise the broader societal issues at play and strive towards creating a safer and more inclusive environment for all residents.
