In a thrilling turn of events on Thanksgiving Day, Soliel the Belgian Sheepdog emerged victorious at the 2025 National Dog Show, claiming the prestigious Best in Show title. The aired event, presented by Purina, showcased some of America’s top dogs competing for the ultimate prize.

With over 2,000 dogs from more than 200 breeds participating in the 24th National Dog Show, the competition was fierce. Soliel, a standout black Belgian Sheepdog, first triumphed in the Herding Group before advancing to the Best in Show round. Judge Charlie Olvis of Lake Wales, Florida, praised Soliel for her flawless performance, stating that she “didn’t put a foot down wrong. Didn’t miss a beat.”

Facing stiff competition in the Best in Show round, Soliel was up against six other remarkable dogs, including Neal the Bichon Frise, Dino the Giant Schnauzer, Baby Joe the Miniature Schnauzer, Comet the Shih Tzu, Tyler the English Setter, and George the American Foxhound, who ultimately secured the Reserve Best in Show title.
Despite competing against canines with impressive credentials, Soliel and George emerged as the top dogs of the show. Dino, the number 1-ranked all-breed dog in the country, and Comet the Shih Tzu, with 143 Best in Show titles, were among the notable contenders.
Handler Daniel Martin of Princeton, N.C., expressed his pride in Soliel’s performance, emphasising her winning qualities and exceptional energy. “Soleil loves the energy, and she feels it. That’s her magic,” Martin shared. “She’ll do whatever we ask of her. She’s a winner.”
Owned by Connie Jasinski of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Pat Snow of Sapulpa, Okla., and Nancy Maye of Towanda, Kan., Soliel’s registered show name is GCHS Prairiewind’s Sxongs of Summer at La Neige. The talented Belgian Sheepdog succeeded Vito the Pug, the 2024 National Dog Show Best in Show winner, in claiming the coveted title.
For those who missed Soliel’s triumph during the NBC broadcast following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, an encore presentation of the two-hour special will air on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 4 p.m. ET/PT.
