A tragic incident unfolded as a pregnant woman lost her life, alongside a 38-year-old man, during a car crash in Las Vegas on November 18. The police have announced that the crash was caused by the woman’s boyfriend, who was driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The authorities charged 19-year-old Jose Gutierrez with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of battery with a deadly weapon in connection with the devastating event.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard in the northwest valley of Las Vegas. The crash involved a silver 2011 Infiniti G37, allegedly driven by Gutierrez, crashing into a line of stationary vehicles. The impact resulted in the tragic deaths of Adilene Duran, the pregnant woman, and Edward Garcia, who was driving one of the other vehicles involved in the collision. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police revealed that Gutierrez failed to decelerate for the backed-up traffic at a red light, leading to the collision with 11 other vehicles.
Following the crash, Gutierrez faced an upgrade in criminal charges, as detailed in a statement by the police on November 20. He now faces two counts of open murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of battery involving a deadly weapon. Gutierrez is currently in custody without bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on January 6, 2026. Reports from the Clark County Jail and local sources highlighted the severity of the crash, indicating that Gutierrez was driving at an excessive speed at the time of impact.

Witnesses described Gutierrez’s vehicle as travelling over 100 mph before crashing into the cars, causing a fiery accident that involved a total of 12 vehicles. Notably, the Infiniti G37 involved in the crash was registered under Duran’s mother’s name. A fundraising campaign has been set up to assist Duran’s family with medical and funeral expenses, acknowledging the tragic loss of both Duran and Garcia in the harrowing accident. The fundraiser expressed the family’s devastation over the untimely demise of their loved ones and requested prayers for the deceased to find peace.
Apart from Duran and Garcia, two other individuals suffered critical injuries in the multi-vehicle collision. Duran was forcefully ejected from the vehicle due to the impact, while Gutierrez sustained serious injuries as well. The police report released on November 20 indicated that initial charges against Gutierrez included four counts of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, which were subsequently updated in light of the circumstances surrounding the crash.
As investigations into the incident continue, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department highlighted the potentially impaired state of Gutierrez during the time of the crash. The red light at the intersection where the collision occurred was visible to all drivers, indicating that Gutierrez may have failed to reduce his speed despite the traffic conditions. The community has been left grieving over the loss of two lives and the critical injuries suffered by others as a result of this tragic event, prompting reflections on road safety and potential measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
