She recalled how their nanny excitedly informed them about their mother being on television, which led Luft and her siblings to sit down and watch the film together. However, it was during the appearance of the flying monkeys in the movie that the children became so frightened that they started to panic. Luft humorously shared, “When the part came with the flying monkeys, we started to get so hysterical. [My mom] called from New York and I said, ‘The monkey took you to New York!'”
Despite the initial scare caused by the flying monkeys, Luft revealed that her mother, Judy Garland, was deeply affected by her children’s reaction. Garland made a heartfelt vow never to let her children watch the movie without her presence again.
