The signs’ removal was confirmed by Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Navy, which issued a joint statement addressing the situation.
In response to queries, a statement from Joint Base San Antonio stated that the signs had been placed erroneously due to changes in the region’s topography, affecting the perception of the international boundary’s location. The contractors responsible for the oversight pledged to coordinate with relevant authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Pentagon referred queries to the US Air Force for further clarification on the matter. The NDA is set to be administered by the US Air Force through Joint Base San Antonio, as part of the broader border security measures being implemented.
