Morgan Wallen Skips CMAs for Second Year in a Row, Seemingly Unfazed by Nominations

Country music star Morgan Wallen made headlines once again by choosing to skip the 2025 CMA Awards, marking the second consecutive year he has avoided the ceremony. Despite being nominated for the prestigious Entertainer of the Year award, a title he clinched last year, Wallen was noticeably absent from the event. His close friend and collaborator, Ernest, shed some light on Wallen’s nonchalant attitude towards the awards, stating that the singer “don’t give a f–k” about winning.
Ernest, known for frequently working with Wallen, offered his Entertainer of the Year prediction to Taste of Country prior to the show. With a lineup of strong contenders including Wallen, Lainey Wilson, Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, and Chris Stapleton, Ernest confidently chose Wilson as his pick, a decision that proved to be spot-on as she ultimately claimed the coveted prize. When quizzed about Wallen’s reaction to being overlooked in favour of Wilson, Ernest bluntly remarked, “He don’t give a f–k,” emphasising Wallen’s apparent indifference towards accolades.
Despite his absence at the CMAs, Wallen gathered three nominations, besides Entertainer of the Year. These included Album of the Year, which was also won by Wilson, and Male Vocalist of the Year, awarded to Cody Johnson. Notably, the anticipation for Wallen’s potential victory was palpable among the audience before the Entertainer award announcement.
Earlier in the month, Wallen alluded to his apathy towards awards shows during a surprise Ryman Auditorium appearance in Nashville, where he jestingly mentioned his reluctance to attend such events. His reference to Broadway, where the Ryman is situated, and Bridgestone Arena, the venue for the CMAs, hinted at his disinterest in formal award ceremonies.
Wallen’s history at the CMAs dates back to 2021 when he faced disqualification from solo categories due to a racial slur incident. Despite the setback, 2025 proved to be a successful year for Wallen with the release of his fourth album, ‘I’m the Problem’, in May. The album claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart for a cumulative 12 weeks and featured the chart-topping single, “What I Want”, in collaboration with Tate McRae. Additionally, Wallen embarked on a stadium tour during the summer, and plans for upcoming tours are in the pipeline.
As Wallen continues to make waves in the country music scene, his deliberate absence from prestigious events like the CMAs sparks conversations about artists’ perspectives on industry recognition. While his fans eagerly anticipate his future endeavours, Wallen’s non-conformist approach to accolades sets him apart in a realm where recognition often holds significant value.
