Jenna Bush Hager recently disclosed that her father, former President George W. Bush, has declined her invitations to co-host her talk show, “Today with Jenna & Friends.” The Today co-host humorously shared that her dad mentioned he doesn’t watch her “dumb show.” Jenna’s playful comment came after her father made a rare appearance on Peyton and Eli Manning’s show, ManningCast.

Despite inviting over 58 guest co-hosts since Hoda Kotb’s departure, Jenna’s father has yet to make an appearance on her show. During a discussion on the Today show, Jenna mentioned her father’s appearance on ManningCast, where he joined the former NFL stars for a conversation from his art studio. Jenna expressed her desire for him to guest co-host on her show, stating, “Maybe I’ll do a public ask for him to come and be a ‘friend’ since he’s my father.”
When reminded that her dad does not often appear on TV, Jenna added, “He said he was retired, so I was surprised as anyone to see him on Monday night.” Savannah Guthrie pointed out that while President Bush didn’t need to leave home for ManningCast, he would have to travel to New York City for Jenna’s show. Al Roker jokingly suggested doing the show from Texas, but Jenna indicated budget constraints might not allow it.
Despite the invitation, Jenna jokingly mentioned that her father might decline as he has previously remarked, “I don’t watch your dumb show.” The Today co-hosts shared a laugh over the comment, with Carson Daly praising President Bush’s candor and humour.
While George W. Bush hasn’t appeared as a co-host on his daughter’s show, Jenna has received support from other family members, including her husband, twin sister, and cousins. Her mother, former first lady Laura Bush, joined Jenna and Barbara Bush Pierce for a special interview on the show earlier this year.
In the past, President Bush has made appearances on Today, including an interview with Jenna and Kathie Lee Gifford. He has also been a guest on the show alongside his daughter and father, George H.W. Bush. In 2021, he participated in a special immigration segment on Today with Hoda & Jenna.
President Bush has shown pride in Jenna’s independent views, commending her for taking the time to understand issues and speak her mind. While he may not be a regular viewer of her show, his support for Jenna’s career endeavours is evident.
Jenna’s light-hearted revelation about her father’s viewing habits adds a personal touch to their relationship and showcases their playful dynamic. Despite George W. Bush’s humorous reluctance to watch his daughter’s show, Jenna continues to thrive in her role as a dedicated and engaging host.
The dynamic between Jenna Bush Hager and her father, George W. Bush, offers a glimpse into their familial bond and shared sense of humour. Jenna’s openness about their interactions provides a refreshing insight into their relationship, highlighting the lighthearted banter and mutual support they share. As Jenna continues to excel in her career, her father’s occasional appearances and humorous comments only add to the charm of their familial connection.
