Home Alone Cast: A Look at the Stars’ Lives 35 Years Later

Home Alone, the iconic Christmas classic that premiered in cinemas on November 16, 1990, not only propelled Macaulay Culkin to instant child stardom but also captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Written by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus, the film has stood the test of time, becoming a perennial favorite for families during the holiday season.

In the role of 8-year-old Kevin McCallister, Macaulay Culkin stole the show as he defended his Chicago home from a duo of inept thieves after being left behind by his parents, played by John Heard and Catherine O’Hara, in the original film. Culkin’s performance in Home Alone earned him a Golden Globe nomination in 1991 for best actor and set the stage for a successful acting career.

Following the success of the film, Home Alone spawned a franchise with a total of six films, although only the first three were released theatrically, grossing over $866 million worldwide. The cast has reunited over the years to commemorate the film’s milestones and celebrate its enduring popularity.

Macaulay Culkin, who portrayed Kevin McCallister, continued to make a mark in Hollywood with roles in films like Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Richie Rich, and more. He recently starred in the 2025 Disney film Zootopia 2 and is set to appear in the upcoming season 2 of the Prime Video series Fallout. Culkin’s personal life has also been eventful, including relationships with Mila Kunis and Brenda Song, with whom he shares two children.

Joe Pesci, known for his role as Harry, one of the bumbling thieves in Home Alone, has had a decorated acting career beyond the film, with roles in Martin Scorsese films like Goodfellas, Casino, and The Irishman. Pesci, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Goodfellas in 1991, has also pursued music and released three studio albums.

Catherine O’Hara, who portrayed Kate McCallister, has enjoyed a successful career post-Home Alone with roles in Christopher Guest’s films and her Emmy-winning performance as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek. O’Hara has also lent her voice to various movie characters and recently appeared in series like The Last of Us and The Studio.

John Heard, who played Peter McCallister, continued to act in films like Gladiator and White Chicks post-Home Alone. Heard was acclaimed for his work on TV shows, including The Sopranos, earning an Emmy nomination for his guest role on the series.

Devin Ratray, known for portraying Buzz McCallister, has had a steady career with appearances in TV shows and films like Nebraska and Hustlers. Ratray has faced legal challenges in recent years but continues to work in the industry.

Kieran Culkin, Macaulay’s real-life brother who played Fuller McCallister, has had success in films and TV shows like Succession, for which he received critical acclaim and awards. Culkin is married to Jazz Charton and is a father of three.

The Home Alone cast members have left a lasting impact on audiences worldwide, with their performances in the beloved Christmas classic continuing to resonate even 35 years after the film’s premiere. Though their paths have diverged since their time on screen together, the legacy of Home Alone lives on in the hearts of fans who revisit the film year after year.
