Slayyyter Shares Her Appreciation for Her LGBTQ+ Fanbase

Slayyyter, the pop sensation, recently expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she receives from her predominantly LGBTQ+ fanbase. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the “CRANK” singer opened up about her recent performance at Grindr’s Pleasure Ball in New York City and her deep connection with the LGBTQ+ community.
The event, which took place on Thursday, October 23, saw Slayyyter debuting her latest single “CRANK” in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Grindr’s Pleasure Ball. The pop star, aged 29, reflected on the experience, stating, “I feel like that is the space where my music lives and thrives, and I feel grateful to always perform in those spaces.”
Slayyyter, who burst onto the scene in 2018, has captured the hearts of many with her confident and high-energy songs like “Daddy AF” and “Miss Belladonna,” resonating deeply with the LGBTQ+ community. She expressed her appreciation for the organic connection she has with her diverse fanbase, emphasising that she has never sought to cater to a specific audience intentionally.
The singer continued, “I think my music has landed in these spaces because I genuinely have loved and adored pop music since I was very young. I feel like a student of pop music and a champion of it in the same way that people in all queer spaces are.”
During the Pleasure Ball event, Slayyyter had the opportunity to reunite with Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears, whom she had previously toured with alongside Kesha. Reflecting on the reunion, she shared, “It was really nice to catch up with Jake backstage, too, just because I hadn’t seen him in a while.”

Despite her performance at the Pleasure Ball, Slayyyter revealed that she does not have a profile on the Grindr app. However, she playfully speculated on what her bio would say, joking, “‘Crank it!’ And then it would say ‘5-foot-2, sorry.'”
