In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Melissa Peterman revealed her hopes for a significant role in the upcoming wedding of her longtime friend, Reba McEntire, to Rex Linn.

Peterman, who starred alongside McEntire in the hit show “Reba” for six seasons from 2001 to 2007, and currently appears with her in NBC’s “Happy’s Place,” shared her excitement about possibly officiating the wedding. The actress, known for her role as Barbra Jean in “Reba,” expressed her eagerness to participate in any way necessary to make the day memorable for the couple.
During a conversation at The Paley Center for Media’s Paley Honors Gala in Beverly Hills, California, Peterman reminisced about their friendship and her previous experiences officiating weddings. She mentioned having led four weddings to date, showcasing a successful track record as all the couples she married are still together.
One of her recent officiations was at Jean-Luc Bilodeau’s wedding to Elise LeBlanc in October. The bride praised Peterman for bringing laughter and joy to the ceremony, highlighting her comedic talents. Peterman revealed that she had floated the idea of officiating McEntire and Linn’s wedding to them and is prepared to assist in any way they require.
McEntire and Linn’s engagement was a private affair that took place on Christmas Eve last year at their Tennessee ranch. Despite the low-key proposal, news of their engagement only broke in September this year. The couple, who officially started dating in 2020, was referred to as fiancés by an E! News reporter at the 2025 Emmy Awards.
Peterman expressed her happiness for McEntire and shared her admiration for the bond the couple shares. She emphasised the authenticity of McEntire’s relationship with Linn, noting how the country superstar radiates happiness and comfort when with him.
The actress praised McEntire for being true to herself in the relationship, stating that she has never seen her friend as content and relaxed as she is with Linn by her side. Peterman’s genuine excitement and support for the couple’s journey towards marriage were palpable during the interview, reflecting the deep friendship she shares with McEntire.
As Peterman continues to co-star with McEntire on “Happy’s Place,” the duo’s on-screen chemistry mirrors their off-screen bond, adding a special touch to their friendship. Peterman’s desire to be a part of McEntire and Linn’s wedding illustrates the close-knit relationships formed in the entertainment industry and the genuine connections that endure over the years.
As fans eagerly anticipate details about McEntire and Linn’s upcoming nuptials, Peterman’s willingness to contribute to their special day reflects the deep-rooted camaraderie and support found within their circle. With her infectious humour and heartfelt sentiments, Peterman’s presence at the wedding, whether as an officiant or a guest, is sure to add an extra layer of joy to the celebration.
