A man in New Mexico, Alexis Hernandez, is at the centre of a chilling case as he faces allegations of being involved in the killing of two adult males. The 25-year-old suspect’s actions took a bizarre turn when he informed authorities that he had received instructions from a cockroach to commit the heinous crimes. The shocking incident unfolded on Friday, November 7, around 10:27 p.m. local time, prompting a response from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) South Valley Command deputies following reports of gunfire near the 1400 block of Entrada Bonita SW, as indicated in a Facebook post by the BCSO.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered two deceased adult males inside the residence with apparent gunshot wounds. Additionally, within the dwelling were three adults and two young children who were found unharmed but were taken into questioning. One suspect, identified as Alexis Hernandez, was taken into custody. Hernandez was then booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on the morning of Saturday, November 8, and is facing two open counts of murder in the first degree charges as per jail records and an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by PEOPLE. The affidavit detailed that Hernandez, armed with a firearm and a Marine Corps Sabre, allegedly confessed to the authorities that he had to carry out the killings.
The suspect had disturbingly claimed that he had been following orders received via an “encrypted message in a cockroach” prompting him to commit the murders. Hernandez’s statements to the officers included assertions that the property owner had been monitoring him through hidden cameras and that he was plagued by sinister voices emanating from the ventilation system inside the property. Intriguingly, officers discovered one deceased man showcasing possible gunshot wounds in the front of the house, while another man was found in an attached apartment with apparent stab wounds.
The victim who owned the property was one of the deceased individuals, with Hernandez confessing that he had perceived signs instructing him to carry out the fatal acts against the property owner. The warrant revealed that the suspect had purchased a handgun for self-defence as he felt threatened and fearful for his life. Moreover, Hernandez maintained that he did not intend to harm the children present in the house and reassured the authorities that he had no harmful intentions towards them. However, the chilling turn of events transpired as Hernandez proceeded to shoot the victims multiple times, emphasising his detachment from the children in the house during the ordeal.
BCSO’s Homicide Detectives have since taken over the investigation to gather evidence and interview witnesses in order to unearth the full extent of the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. As the law enforcement authorities continue their probe, details such as the identities of those involved will be disclosed in due course, once notifications have been delivered to the next of kin.
