Dungeons & Dragons isn’t just a game anymore – it’s now inspiring enchanting wedding cakes thanks to the creativity of one talented baker. Alexis Oltmanns, the head cake decorator at Sugarjones in Loves Park, Illinois, has combined her love for baking with her passion for fantasy to create stunning wedding cakes based on the iconic classes from Dungeons & Dragons.

Taking a cue from other bakers who showcased their skills on social media, Oltmanns launched a video series that transforms D&D classes into fantastical wedding cakes. Drawing inspiration from the official Dungeons & Dragons art, fan art, and her own experiences, she has so far brought six classes to life: Druid, Cleric, Wizard, Rogue, Paladin, and Bard.
Each cake is a work of art, designed to reflect the unique characteristics and abilities of the corresponding D&D class. From intricate details like angel wings symbolizing a cleric’s divine power to sparkling constellations denoting wizardry, Oltmanns’ cakes are a feast for the eyes.
While the cakes are currently made of styrofoam for display purposes, Oltmanns uses edible materials like American buttercream frosting, fondant, wafer paper, and isomalt in her creations. She encourages people not to hesitate in ordering real D&D cakes for any occasion, emphasising that cakes can be as unique as you are.
Despite having just celebrated her first anniversary at Sugarjones, Oltmanns has been baking and decorating for 16 years. Her journey into the world of Dungeons & Dragons is more recent, starting with regular play sessions at her local library. Now deeply involved in multiple campaigns and even DMing for her family and friends, Oltmanns’ passion for the game shines through in her cake designs.
The creative process behind each cake is a labour of love for Oltmanns, who meticulously plans and designs every element to capture the essence of each D&D class. From experimenting with new techniques like isomalt and royal icing string work to preparing intricate decorations in advance, Oltmanns invests hours of effort into bringing her visions to life.
With her videos garnering attention on platforms like TikTok, Oltmanns has found a supportive community within the Dungeons & Dragons fandom. Comments on her videos express admiration for her attention to detail and creative interpretations of the different classes, showcasing the widespread appeal of her magical creations.
As Oltmanns continues to expand her repertoire and delve deeper into the realm of Dungeons & Dragons, her wedding cakes offer a unique blend of fantasy and culinary artistry. Whether you’re a die-hard D&D enthusiast or simply appreciate exquisite craftsmanship, these cakes are sure to dazzle and delight with their whimsical charm.
