A French salesman, Dagobert Renouf, recently made headlines for his unique approach to paying for his wedding suit. Facing financial struggles and unable to afford his nuptials, Renouf came up with an unconventional solution that caught the attention of many. By turning himself into a walking billboard, he managed to cover the costs of his wedding by selling ad space on his tuxedo.

Renouf’s story began a few months ago when he was close to homelessness and in desperate need of funds for his wedding to marketing manager Anna Plynina. Taking to social media, he posted a tweet asking for companies to sponsor his wedding by placing their logos on his tuxedo. What started as a humorous idea quickly gained traction, with 26 tech startups ultimately participating in the initiative.
The groom’s clever marketing ploy quickly gained momentum, with Renouf setting up a website to sell ad spots on his suit. While Plynina initially had reservations about the idea, she eventually embraced it as an opportunity to involve their entrepreneurship community in their special day. Renouf, an entrepreneur turned salesman at a startup, saw the project as a way to bring together like-minded individuals for a memorable celebration.
Over the course of three months, Renouf kept his followers updated on the progress of the sponsored suit. Companies paid varying amounts to have their logos featured on different parts of the tuxedo, with additional options for inner jacket branding. The final product, a patchwork of startup logos designed by Lamine Sow, created a visually striking look for the groom on his wedding day.
On October 25th, Renouf and Plynina tied the knot in Lille, France, with a small group of 16 guests in attendance. Despite the initial scepticism surrounding the unconventional sponsorship idea, the couple’s wedding photos and videos went viral, generating praise for Renouf’s bold approach. While he didn’t end up saving as much money as he had hoped, the experience led to unexpected opportunities for the groom.
Although the financial outcome of the venture was not as lucrative as anticipated, Renouf found himself gaining a job offer from one of the participating startups, Comp AI, based in New York. This unexpected career opportunity allowed him to secure his dream job and kickstart a new chapter in his professional life.
Looking ahead, Renouf and Plynina plan to auction off the wedding jacket for charity, with proceeds going towards supporting children with epilepsy. The couple, who met in 2024, remain optimistic about their future together and are grateful for the support they received from their community during this unique journey.
In a world where wedding expenses can often be a significant financial burden, Renouf’s story serves as a reminder of the power of creativity, community support, and thinking outside the box to overcome challenges. As the couple continues their journey together, they look forward to the next chapter with a sense of gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead.
