Two people tragically lost their lives, and five others were rushed to the hospital following a devastating house fire in Los Angeles. The incident occurred late at night on Saturday, November 1st, in the Sunland neighborhood. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the emergency, where a total of 36 firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the fire within just 30 minutes, preventing further damage. Sadly, despite their efforts, two individuals were found deceased at the scene.

Upon arrival at the 10900 block of North Scoville Avenue, firefighters were met with a distressing scene as they encountered a one-story, single-family home fully engulfed in flames. Concerningly, there were no reports of any alarms sounding during the rescue operation, raising questions about the presence of functional smoke alarms in the residence, which was built back in 1948.
Of the eight individuals affected by the fire, five were promptly taken to the hospital to receive treatment for injuries of varying degrees. Tragically, one victim out of the two deceased individuals was identified as an 87-year-old man who was discovered outside the burning home with critical burn injuries. Despite the best efforts of the first responders to provide necessary medical intervention, the elderly man succumbed to his injuries. Additionally, four more adults who were present at the scene sustained smoke inhalation injuries and were also taken to the hospital for medical care.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS) to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic event. Efforts are being made to ascertain whether any preventive measures could have mitigated the severity of the incident and prevented the loss of precious lives. As authorities work towards understanding the root cause, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will be tasked with determining the official cause of death for the two victims.
