A groom and bride’s “elegant Halloween” wedding eight years ago was inspired by one of horror’s most iconic couples, Gomez and Morticia Addams from The Addams Family. The undying devotion and mutual love of the macabre displayed by Gomez and Morticia served as perfect inspiration for Eduardo and Alexis Munoz, who share a deep affection for “all things spooky.” Their wedding took place on October 28, 2017, in San Francisco and was described as a “luxurious gothic romance” affair.

The couple’s love story mirrors that of Gomez and Morticia, according to the bride, Alexis. The theme of their Halloween wedding was a nod to the iconic couple, with a desire to maintain the formal elegance of a black-tie event. They envisioned a setting filled with black accents and deep moody florals, creating a luxurious gothic atmosphere for their special day.
Attired in black, the wedding party embraced the theme with groomsmen sporting black calla lily boutonnieres, bridesmaids carrying deep-toned bouquets, and flower girls clad in black tutu dresses scattering black rose petals. The venue, Julia Morgan Ballroom at the Merchants Exchange, was transformed into a captivating space with rich magenta tones, hints of blue, touches of purple, and black Colombian roses, all arranged beautifully by florist Bells & Bloom.
The decorations included velvet linens with baroque designs, silver candelabras, decorative skulls, and golden pumpkin place card holders, creating a striking gothic aesthetic. The ambiance was further enhanced by live music, including performances by a string quartet and a mariachi band during the cocktail hour. The couple even had a custom “Til Death Do Us Part” sign for their DJ.
Eduardo and Alexis Munoz made a grand entrance into their reception, leaving their 240 guests in awe with the stunning decor and atmospheric lighting. Custom black-painted pumpkins, romantic Halloween sayings, and intimate details like the bride and groom’s seats labeled “Cara Mia” and “Mon Cher” added a personal touch to the celebration. As a video of Gomez and Morticia played, the couple waltzed to “Roses” by The Chainsmokers, embodying the essence of their shared love.
The attention to detail extended to custom leather jackets worn by the couple, featuring portraits of Gomez and Morticia and the words “Just” and “Married.” The bride changed into a black sparkly gown for the reception, completing the Halloween dream wedding they had envisioned. Guests were treated to skeleton masks, LED foam lights, a late-night snack of burgers and fries, and an unforgettable Halloween experience.
The wedding was a culmination of Eduardo and Alexis’ love story, which began in 2011 when they met on Facebook. After moving to Boston and subsequently returning to San Francisco, Eduardo surprised Alexis with a magical proposal in Paris in 2016. Their shared passion for Halloween and their unique bond, reminiscent of Gomez and Morticia, inspired a wedding that perfectly reflected their love and personalities.
The couple’s attention to detail, creativity, and unwavering love for each other shone through in every aspect of their ‘Luxurious Gothic’ Halloween wedding. From the elegant yet spooky decor to the heartfelt nods to Gomez and Morticia, Eduardo and Alexis Munoz created a celebration that will be cherished by them and their guests for years to come.
