Six individuals were apprehended and charged with indecent exposure after being found nude on a beach in Fort Pierce, as reported by the local police department.

Daniel Harrisson, 77, Donald Knapp, 74, Gaetane Lambert, 73, Steven Marhenke, 60, Elmer Quandt, 77, and Nickolas Ramos, 27, were taken into custody on Saturday, October 25. They are facing charges of indecent exposure and exposure of sexual organs, according to a statement released by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.
The arrests ensued after the authorities received multiple complaints about unauthorised nudity at the Little Mud Boat Ramp area in Fort Pierce, situated off the Jimmy Buffet Memorial Highway. The offenders had resorted to this new location due to the closure of their usual nudist beach, Blind Creek Beach, for renovations.
The ongoing renovation project at Blind Creek Beach, which includes the paving of the parking area leading to its closure, has prompted some nudists to move further north outside the designated nude-optional zone. The sheriff’s office clarified that this behaviour is unacceptable and does not excuse public nudity in prohibited areas.
Despite efforts by law enforcement deputies since early September to inform visitors about the designated nude-optional zones and the posted signage, the six naturists were found without clothes at the Little Mud Boat Ramp, approximately 1.1 miles north of the permitted area.
While some beachgoers did not express concerns about nudity on the beach, others voiced discomfort with the situation. A woman interviewed by 12 News shared her reservations, particularly in the context of young families visiting the area.
Following their arrest, each of the six individuals was released on a $500 cash bond, according to online jail records. Court appearances have been scheduled for Harrisson, Lambert, Marhenke, Quandt, and Knapp on various dates in November and December. The court appearance date for Ramos remains unknown at this time.
The incident has sparked discussions surrounding public decency and the boundaries of clothing-optional areas. Nudist beaches are designated for individuals who wish to sunbathe and relax in the nude in a safe and accepting environment, and it is essential to respect the rules and regulations put in place.
As the legal proceedings progress, it serves as a reminder for individuals to adhere to the designated guidelines and boundaries of public spaces to ensure a comfortable and respectful coexistence among all members of the community.
Overall, the arrests emphasize the importance of following regulations and respecting public spaces, especially in areas where specific guidelines are in place to ensure the comfort and safety of all individuals utilizing the facilities.
