A Texas mother is facing charges of felony child endangerment after allegedly abandoning her 12-year-old son by moving out of their apartment without informing him while he was at school. Erica Renee Sanders and her boyfriend, Keven Dwyane Adams, reportedly left their Copperas Cove residence completely empty on October 17th, leading to Sanders being arrested for the serious charge. The shocking incident came to light when the boy returned home from school and found the apartment stripped of all furniture and household items, with no sign of his mother or her partner.

Local authorities were alerted to the situation by the principal of the middle school the boy attends, who contacted the Copperas Cove Police Department after the child discovered he had been left behind by his family. The responding officer described the apartment as “empty” and “completely barren,” confirming that the young boy had left for school that morning to a fully furnished home. The gravity of the situation became more apparent when a neighbour revealed that Sanders and Adams had a history of conflicts with the child, often resulting in him being asked to leave the premises.

During the investigation, Adams claimed that Sanders had not abandoned her son but had chosen to live with him instead, making it clear that the 12-year-old was not welcome in their new living arrangement. Sanders, on the other hand, mentioned that her brother was supposed to pick her son up from school, but she refused to provide any contact details or further information about him to the authorities. Despite assurances from Adams that he would retrieve the child, several hours passed without any attempt to do so, raising concerns about the boy’s welfare and safety.
After failing to locate the boy’s uncle, who was meant to collect him from school, officers took the necessary steps to involve Child Protective Services (CPS) and ensure the child’s well-being. Following discussions with Sanders and Adams, CPS instructed the police to release the boy to Adams, who was hesitant to provide details about their new address. Eventually, after some delay, Adams took custody of the boy, though he expressed reluctance due to a purported arrest warrant for Sanders and complained about the child extensively.
Subsequently, both Sanders and Adams were taken into custody by law enforcement, and the case has been referred to the prosecutor’s office for further review. Sanders now faces a third-degree felony charge in Texas for intentionally abandoning a child under the age of 15 without the intent to return, as indicated in the court documents. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services has yet to comment on the matter, leaving many wondering about the circumstances that led to this distressing situation.
This shocking turn of events has sparked outrage and concern within the community, highlighting the importance of safeguarding children and their rights. As the legal proceedings unfold, authorities will continue to investigate the case to ensure that justice is served and that measures are in place to prevent such incidents from recurring. The well-being of the 12-year-old boy remains a top priority, with authorities striving to provide him with the necessary support and care during this challenging time.
