At the 2025 Dancers Against Cancer Gala of the Stars, held at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, Mann reflected on her journey under Ball’s mentorship. With a career that started at 18 dancing on stage with Elvis Presley, Mann’s path crossed with comedy legend Lucille Ball during their work on the hit sitcom “Here’s Lucy” from 1968 to 1974.
The encounter with Presley led Mann to assist in choreographing his performances, including the ’68 Comeback Special and his Las Vegas shows. Mann credits Presley for kickstarting her career and opening doors to significant opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Through the choreographer who collaborated with Presley, Mann was introduced to Lucille Ball, who soon became her guiding light. Ball’s mentorship for six years was an educational journey for Mann, teaching her not only about choreography but also about directing, production, and leadership skills crucial for her career growth.
An important lesson that Mann cherishes from Ball is to make decisions confidently. Ball instilled in Mann the value of being resolute in her choices, emphasizing the need to stand by them firmly. This principle of decisiveness was foundational in Mann’s approach to her work, as she learned to assertively lead and direct in the entertainment industry.
Having worked closely with Ball for six seasons on “Here’s Lucy,” Mann absorbed not just the technical aspects of performance but also the deeper insights into directing and production. These experiences with Ball paved the way for Mann to become a seasoned choreographer, collaborating with iconic figures like Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.
Recognized for her outstanding contributions, Mann was honoured at the 2025 Gala of the Stars alongside Janet Jackson. Acknowledged for her philanthropic endeavours, Mann expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasised her commitment to giving back to the community, particularly in the fight against cancer, a cause close to her heart.
As Mann received the Philanthropist of the Year award, she highlighted the importance of supporting cancer research and helping those affected by the disease. Her dedication to philanthropy and her efforts to make a positive impact on others resonated deeply with the audience, marking a significant moment in her esteemed career.
In a poignant reflection on the event, Mann underscored the significance of contributing to research and development initiatives to combat cancer effectively. Her words encapsulated the essence of the evening, focusing on collective efforts to drive meaningful change and provide support to those in need.
Overall, Mann’s journey from a young dancer to a celebrated choreographer illuminated the profound impact of mentorship and dedication in shaping a successful and purpose-driven career in the entertainment industry.
