Jeremy Strong, known for his role in the hit series “Succession,” is distancing his upcoming portrayal of Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg from Jesse Eisenberg’s performance in the 2010 film “The Social Network.” Strong recently discussed his approach to the character in the sequel titled “The Social Reckoning,” set to premiere in October 2026.
The original film, directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin, captured Zuckerberg’s early days in creating the social media platform. In contrast, “The Social Reckoning” will delve into more recent events, particularly focusing on The Wall Street Journal’s exposé titled The Facebook Files, released in 2021.

When asked about Eisenberg’s depiction of Zuckerberg, Strong emphasized that his portrayal will be distinct, stating, “I think that [Eisenberg’s performance] has nothing to do with what I’m going to do.” Despite not discussing the role with Eisenberg, Strong expressed his excitement for the character and the script, highlighting its relevance to contemporary societal themes.
Having previously worked with Sorkin on projects like “The Trial of the Chicago 7” and “Molly’s Game,” Strong shared his admiration for the script of “The Social Reckoning,” describing it as one of the best he has ever read. He expressed his approach to the role with care, empathy, and objectivity, aiming to capture the complexities of the character.

Reportedly eyed for the role of Zuckerberg since summer, Strong will be joined by Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White in the cast, portraying key figures like Facebook engineer Frances Haugen and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horowitz, respectively. The original film, which received critical acclaim and an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 2011, chronicled Zuckerberg’s journey alongside prominent figures in Facebook’s history.
Mark Zuckerberg, presently the third richest person globally according to Forbes, remains a significant figure in the tech industry. As anticipation mounts for “The Social Reckoning,” viewers eagerly await Strong’s interpretation of the enigmatic tech titan. With the film’s release scheduled for late 2026, audiences can expect a fresh perspective on Zuckerberg’s narrative.
In an industry marred by controversies and ethical dilemmas, Strong’s portrayal promises to offer insights into the complex realms of technology, power, and accountability. As the cinematic landscape evolves, “The Social Reckoning” stands as a testament to storytelling that reflects and challenges the contemporary zeitgeist.
Amidst discussions surrounding celebrity culture and artistic interpretation, Jeremy Strong’s role in reshaping Zuckerberg’s onscreen persona underscores the evolving narratives within the film industry. With “The Social Reckoning” poised to explore the intricate dynamics of social media and corporate power, Strong’s portrayal signals a departure from past representations, inviting audiences to witness a nuanced depiction of a prominent tech figure.
