In a recent court hearing involving Denise Richards and Aaron Phypers, the judge took a firm stance and scolded the lawyers representing both parties. The hearing, which took place on Tuesday, Oct. 7, saw Judge Mark Juhas questioning the attorneys’ actions in a tense atmosphere. Richards, 54, and Phypers, 53, were in court as Richards sought to make permanent the temporary restraining order she obtained against Phypers back in July.

The hearing, which started almost half an hour late in Los Angeles, escalated when Phypers’ attorney, Michael Finley, attempted to introduce text messages related to Richards’ accusations of domestic violence against Phypers. Juhas expressed frustration at the unfolding events, questioning the purpose of the discussion. The judge pointed out the need to focus on relevant matters, asking pointedly, “The fact that you’ve got them is fabulous, but what are we doing here?”
The dispute continued during the hearing as Finley pressed Richards about specific text messages she had sent Phypers on July 5. Richards, with her attorney Brett Berman, maintained that she had indeed addressed the allegations of domestic violence in other texts on the same day, not presented in court. This led to confusion and objections, prompting Juhas to intervene and prompt the attorneys to streamline their arguments.

As the hearing neared its end on the second of the three scheduled days, Juhas stressed the importance of moving swiftly through the proceedings. He expressed concern about scheduling constraints, emphasising the need to conclude the case efficiently. The judge called for a reconvening of the court the following day, highlighting the necessity to progress through the testimonies without delay.
Additionally, Juhas intervened when the discussion delved into Richards’ appearance on a reality TV show in 2024, where she admitted to being under the influence. The judge questioned the relevance of this line of questioning, signalling a focus on the key issues at hand. The hearing also saw revelations about unexpected witness testimonies, underscoring the need for transparency in court proceedings.
Richards had previously been granted a temporary restraining order against Phypers, accusing him of domestic violence in a court filing on July 17. She detailed instances of abuse, alleging that Phypers had physically harmed her and made threats against her life. Phypers denied these claims, describing them as false and hurtful, while also levelling accusations of infidelity and abuse against Richards.
The hearing shed light on the complexities of the legal battle between Richards and Phypers, highlighting the challenges faced by the former couple. The proceedings underscored the importance of a fair and thorough examination of the facts, ensuring justice and due process for both parties. Juhas’ assertive approach in the courtroom signalled a commitment to upholding the integrity of the legal system amidst a contentious dispute.
