A Michigan mother is currently facing 18 felony charges following a disturbing hit-and-run spree that shocked the community. Rachele Ricklefs allegedly struck at least 10 people and multiple cars while her two young children were in the vehicle with her. The incident, described as “very bizarre” by authorities, unfolded on Friday, Sept. 26, leaving investigators puzzled as they try to understand the mother’s motivations during the chaotic events.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has officially charged Rachele Ricklefs with 18 felonies, including 10 counts of intent to murder, two counts of fleeing from the police, and various other charges related to property damage, assault with a dangerous weapon, assaulting a police officer, and child abuse. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido expressed deep concern over the case, calling the allegations “shocking and deeply disturbing” and asserting their commitment to ensuring justice is served.
The harrowing incident began at approximately 8 p.m. local time when Ricklefs reportedly struck a cyclist with her black jeep and fled the scene, with her young son and daughter also in the vehicle. Local police managed to intercept Ricklefs a couple of hours later and suspected that she might be experiencing a mental health crisis. The situation quickly escalated as Ricklefs reversed her jeep into a patrol car, evaded officers, and initiated a police chase, endangering multiple pedestrians in the process.
During the chaotic spree, Ricklefs’ son managed to escape from the vehicle before she continued on her destructive path. Multiple pedestrians were struck, and Ricklefs even attempted to run over others in a Walmart parking lot. The situation finally came to an end when police were able to apprehend Ricklefs, who allegedly resisted arrest, attempted to assault officers, and caused damage to multiple squad cars.
Despite the severity of the incident, all 10 victims are reported to be in stable condition, and Ricklefs’ children were fortunately unharmed during the ordeal. The Warren Police Department described the case as “very, very bizarre,” with Lieutenant John Gajewski highlighting the miraculous fact that there were no fatalities considering the extreme circumstances.
Ricklefs currently remains in custody with a bond set at $750,000, with additional measures in place should she be released, including house arrest and the use of a GPS device for monitoring. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to piece together the events that led to such a violent and erratic episode.
