In a shocking revelation, a funeral director has pleaded guilty to being the notorious ‘Night Stalker’ serial rapist who terrorised Sydney in the early 1990s.
The accused, Glenn Gary Cameron, 61, admitted to multiple sexual assaults on women that occurred between 1991 and 1993. These heinous crimes came to light during a court hearing on September 23 in Australia, as reported by various media outlets including the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Sydney Morning Herald, and the BBC.
Cameron was convicted on 13 charges involving seven women and one teenager, all committed when he was between the ages of 27 and 29. The charges included 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault using a weapon as a threat, according to the BBC. While facing a total of 36 charges, nine were dropped, and 14 more will be reviewed during the sentencing phase, as per ABC.
The perpetrator, also known as the ‘Moore Park Rapist’, targeted victims aged between 17 and 45, with most of them being Asian women. His modus operandi involved approaching women near train stations with false promises of job opportunities.
Cameron’s crimes had remained unsolved for decades until a breakthrough in 2022, when new DNA evidence linked him to the assaults. The investigation took a significant turn in 2023, leading to Cameron’s arrest in February 2024 at the Sydney International Airport. After months of anonymity, his identity was finally disclosed to the public.

During the court proceedings at the Downing Centre Local Court, Cameron appeared via video link from Long Bay Prison where he is currently incarcerated. The gravity of his actions was further magnified as one of his victims participated in the hearing remotely, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.
The perpetrator’s spree began in 1991, targeting a 25-year-old Japanese tourist whom he raped at knifepoint. His attacks escalated in frequency over time, with a year-long gap between his first and second victims, and shorter intervals thereafter. Notably, Cameron was employed as a funeral director during the period of his crimes, as per ABC.

Personal details emerged from court records, painting a troubling picture of Cameron’s past relationships. His first wife, originally from Taiwan, bore him two children before he abandoned the family. His second wife, hailing from Thailand, played a pivotal role in his life, helping him overcome drug addiction. The couple resided in Alice Springs until his arrest.
