AJ Michalka recently had a heartwarming reunion with her ex-boyfriend, Joe Jonas, in a beautiful display of friendship. The Jonas Brothers member had just released his latest solo album, “Music for People Who Believe in Love,” when he invited Aly & AJ to join him on stage in Los Angeles. The surprise performance of their 2005 hit, “No One,” brought back memories of their teenage romance.

The reunion took place backstage at The Kelly Clarkson Show, where they coincidentally bumped into each other for the first time in about ten years. AJ shared with PEOPLE, “It was super sweet. He met [Aly’s son] Jack, and we hung out a little bit backstage.” Following their encounter, Joe reached out to them and asked them to perform with him at The Mint in L.A., expressing that “No One” was his favorite song. AJ described the moment as “really awesome” and mentioned the positive reactions from fans.
Although there were long-standing rumors that “Potential Breakup Song” by Aly & AJ was written about Joe, it was actually another track, “Flattery,” from their Insomniatic album that was inspired by him. To playfully address the speculation, the trio created a TikTok video set to “Potential Breakup Song” at Joe’s show. Reconnecting with Joe allowed AJ to reflect on their past and appreciate the friendship they still share. She noted, “Even though, obviously, him and I were together, I think that there is a friendship there that will always be there.”
AJ expressed admiration for how Joe has evolved over the years, particularly as a father and a hardworking individual with a great sense of humor and kindness. Seeing him in this new light was refreshing for her, highlighting the depth of their bond that transcends their past relationship. The shared experience of navigating the early days of their music careers together added a unique layer to their connection, which AJ finds particularly special.
As Aly & AJ embarked on their latest tour in support of their album, “Silver Deliverer,” which kicked off in Los Angeles, the possibility of a collaboration with the Jonas Brothers surfaced. With both acts coincidentally touring at the same time, there is a chance for a joint performance if schedules align. AJ expressed openness to the idea, acknowledging the excitement it would bring to their fans and describing it as a fun opportunity they would gladly explore.
The sentiment was echoed by Aly, who shared AJ’s enthusiasm for a potential collaboration. The sisters are focused on delivering a memorable tour experience for their fans, and the prospect of joining forces with the Jonas Brothers adds an exciting twist to their musical journey. Fans can catch Aly & AJ on tour for the Silver Deliverer album, with the release of their new “More Silver” EP adding to the excitement of their ongoing musical endeavors.
