In a heartfelt show of support, Kate Middleton and Prince William made an emotional return to Southport following a tragic knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class. The royal couple visited the community to express solidarity with the affected families and individuals. The Prince and Princess of Wales spent time with the bereaved families, teachers, and schoolchildren as they listened to their stories and offered comfort.
The visit, which was unannounced, aimed to demonstrate ongoing support for the community that had been deeply impacted by the horrific incident. Last October, Kate Middleton and Prince William had previously visited Southport, near Liverpool, meeting with families who had lost their loved ones and emergency responders who had bravely dealt with the aftermath of the tragedy.
During their recent visit on September 23, 2025, the royal couple commenced their itinerary at Farnborough Road Infant and Junior School, the school attended by one of the victims, Elsie Dot Stancombe. They engaged with teachers to understand the impact of the attack on the school and the support provided to pupils and staff in the wake of the tragedy. Following this, they had a private meeting with Elsie’s parents and her younger sister.
The Southport community had been left shattered by the knife attack that claimed the lives of three young girls: Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9. In January 2025, Axel Rudakubana, the perpetrator, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 52 years after confessing to his involvement in the devastating incident.
Upon hearing about the tragedy in July 2024, William and Kate, who are parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, expressed their heartfelt sympathies for the families and loved ones affected. They acknowledged the immense pain and loss experienced by the community during that challenging time.
In a show of continuous support and solidarity, the royal couple reiterated their commitment to standing by the people of Southport. Kate Middleton, who had recently completed chemotherapy treatment for cancer, further extended her support to the families and survivors by inviting them to the Together at Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey in December.
The visit to Southport in October 2024 was part of a series of engagements by the royal family to show compassion and solidarity with the affected community. King Charles had also visited the town earlier, meeting families impacted by the tragedy and engaging with local groups and faith leaders to offer his support and condolences.
