Two Ryanair Crew Members Reportedly Injured Due to Turbulence

Two crew members on board a Ryanair flight to Palma de Mallorca on Sept. 21 were reportedly sent flying during turbulence, requiring medical assistance upon landing. The incident was confirmed by the airline in a statement to PEOPLE, indicating that no passengers were harmed during the flight.

The Ryanair flight, identified as flight 4615, departed Vitoria Airport in Spain at 8:32 p.m. local time and landed at Son Sant Joan airport in Palma de Mallorca about an hour later. However, before landing, the aircraft encountered rough air resulting in turbulence. A spokesperson for Ryanair stated that the captain had requested medical assistance for the two cabin crew members, who were then treated upon landing.

Reports from local outlet Majorca Daily Bulletin suggested that the crew members were conducting a safety check when the turbulence unexpectedly struck, causing one flight attendant to be thrown against the ceiling and another to be struck by a service cart. This incident is reminiscent of a similar occurrence earlier in the year when eight individuals were injured on a Ryanair flight to Milan during a thunderstorm due to severe turbulence.

In that particular incident, the Milan-bound flight departed from Berlin on June 4 but was forced to divert to Memmingen in southern Germany due to adverse weather conditions, as reported by Reuters and RTE. Memmingen Police officials recounted that the pilot made an emergency landing after encountering severe turbulence, resulting in injuries to eight passengers, including a mother and toddler, as well as a crew member.
