Reports from CBS affiliate WAFB, ABC affiliate WBRZ, and Louisiana First revealed that the driver had come to a stop at an intersection and asked bystanders to check if any children were on the road. Assured by a bystander that the children were clear, the driver proceeded to move his vehicle. Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, the rear driver’s side tire of the trailer struck Hamideh as the truck began moving again, leading to the fatal accident.
Law enforcement officials, including the Baton Rouge Police Department and the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Initial findings suggest that the driver was unaware of the child’s presence on the roadway and did not realise anyone had been struck until after the collision occurred.
Authorities have indicated that impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash, with pending results from a blood draw. At this stage, no charges have been brought against the driver, as police are treating the incident as a tragic accident.
