Interior designer and television personality, Bobby Berk, known for his role on Queer Eye, recently disclosed his decision with husband Dewey Do to forego having children in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. Speaking at the One House Toast to the Emmys event in Los Angeles on September 11, Berk revealed their choice not to start a family, citing multiple reasons.

Berk, 44, expressed, “We have decided it’s not for us.” He elaborated on his stance, stating, “I mean, in this day and age — and this is not to knock anybody’s decision to have or not have kids — but for me, I would just have a hard time bringing any child into the world right now.” The couple, who have been together since 2004 and married in 2012, carefully weighed their options before making this significant choice.

The demanding nature of Berk’s career played a pivotal role in their decision. “I just don’t have enough time to devote [to parenting],” he acknowledged. Instead of raising children, they have found joy in spoiling their beloved mini Labradoodle, Bimini. Berk shared that Do, a skilled cook, enjoys preparing gourmet meals for their furry companion, consisting of bison or rack of lamb with sweet potatoes, peas, and carrots.

Married life with Do has been fulfilling for Berk, emphasizing, “I mean, 22 years, still going well.” The couple initially met online in 2004, leading to their marriage eight years later. Despite not emphasising anniversaries or birthdays, Berk and Do celebrate each other daily, opting for spontaneous weekend getaways and meaningful experiences over grand gestures on special occasions.

Reflecting on their enduring relationship, Berk humorously remarked on his surprise that Do has stayed with him for so long. The couple’s ability to cherish everyday moments and prioritise their connection has been the cornerstone of their two-decade-long partnership. Berk highlighted their recent travels to Ireland and Asia, showcasing their commitment to creating lasting memories together.
