In a groundbreaking move, Saweetie has been named ESPN’s first-ever Monday Night Football music curator, marking a significant milestone for women in the music industry. Fans were given a glimpse of this historic partnership on Saturday, Sept. 6, at ESPN’s Red Nail Bar pop-up salon, where they were treated to special “Saweet” treats, bold photo moments, and signature “ESPN Red” manicures by the rapper’s personal nail artist, Temeka Jackson.
The 32-year-old rapper, known for her hit songs and unique style, expressed her excitement about the collaboration with ESPN, highlighting her deep-rooted connection to football. Saweetie shared, “I come from a really big football family. All my uncles played in college. My dad played in college. My grandfather played in the NFL. So football was probably the first ball I ever took.”

Being chosen as the first woman to curate music for ESPN’s Monday Night Football, Saweetie sees this opportunity as a significant achievement. Throughout the season, she will hand-pick tracks for select ESPN MNF games, which will be featured in promotional materials, live telecasts, and Monday Night Countdown segments. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “It’s the biggest night of the week, so I’m just happy they trust me and my music tastes.”
The rapper also hinted at introducing emerging musicians to fans through her curated playlists, promising to bring fresh talent to the forefront. When asked about the possibility of including her own songs in the mix, Saweetie teased, “I also have a few tricks up my sleeve.” Her bond with the sport is evident in her choice of walkout track, “Do It for the Bay,” a collaboration with P-Lo, paying tribute to her Bay Area roots and her beloved San Francisco 49ers.

Beyond her love for music and football, Saweetie credits her upbringing around athletes for instilling valuable lessons that continue to guide her in her career. She emphasised the importance of sports in developing skills such as handling pressure, teamwork, and discipline, qualities she now seeks in the people she works with. Observing the increasing involvement of women in sports, Saweetie expressed her enthusiasm for the evolving landscape.
Regarding her game-day style, the rapper prefers a simple and comfortable look, opting for sneakers, jeans, and a T-shirt. Her down-to-earth approach to fashion reflects her desire to feel at ease while maintaining a chic and effortless vibe. Saweetie’s multifaceted talents and passion for music and sports have paved the way for her to make a lasting impact in both industries.
As Saweetie blazes a trail as ESPN’s inaugural female music curator for Monday Night Football, her journey serves as inspiration for aspiring artists and women breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields. With her innovative playlists and fresh sound, Saweetie is set to enhance the entertainment experience for football fans and music enthusiasts alike, solidifying her place as a trailblazer in the world of sports and music collaboration.
