A 23-year-old man is facing murder charges in Australia after being accused of stabbing a woman to death and dumping her body in the ocean. The Western Australia Police Force confirmed that the body of a woman was discovered in the water near Success Boat Harbour in South Fremantle, Perth, Western Australia on December 4, 2022. The victim was identified as Helen Jeremy Solomon Marsuk, a 25-year-old from Koongamia.

Authorities revealed that the accused, Muhammad Abdur Rehman Mirza, allegedly murdered Marsuk on December 1, 2022, before her body was found. The WA Supreme Court has charged Mirza with one count of murder in connection to the incident. Reports indicate that Marsuk had suffered 16 stab wounds, described as “penetrating sharp force injuries,” when her body was recovered from the water by a recreational fisherman.
Prosecutors claimed in court that Mirza had invited the victim to his residence under the pretence of exchanging drugs for sex. It was alleged that a dispute arose when Marsuk discovered that Mirza did not possess the promised drugs. Mirza purportedly admitted to an undercover operative that he had killed Marsuk in an act of self-defence, despite initially blaming a drug dealer for the crime during police questioning.
The court heard that Mirza did not seek medical assistance for the victim despite her severe injuries, fearing police involvement. He purportedly kept Marsuk’s body in his bathroom for several days before disposing of it in the ocean. Mirza allegedly continued to host a friend in his apartment during this time, keeping the door to the room containing the victim’s remains locked.
Defence lawyer Simon Watters argued that Mirza acted in self-defence after Marsuk had become aggressive and armed herself with a knife. Watters claimed that Mirza was not intentionally targeting specific body parts during the altercation, suggesting a lack of intent in the stabbing. The case is scheduled for a jury trial until September 19, 2025.
The shocking case has prompted discussions around drug-related violence and the consequences of escalating disputes. The tragic loss of Helen Jeremy Solomon Marsuk has cast a spotlight on the importance of conflict resolution and peaceful interventions in potentially dangerous situations. The court proceedings will further shed light on the circumstances leading to the untimely death of Marsuk, providing closure to her loved ones and seeking justice for the heinous crime.
The trial of Muhammad Abdur Rehman Mirza will be closely monitored as the legal process unfolds. The prosecution’s claims of premeditated murder and the defence’s assertion of self-defence will be thoroughly examined in the quest for truth and accountability. The community’s thoughts remain with the family and friends of Helen Jeremy Solomon Marsuk as they navigate this distressing period and seek solace in the pursuit of justice.
