Elias Morgan, previously sentenced to 45 years in prison for the murder of former prison guard Lenny Scott, found guilty of plotting shocking revenge after an affair was exposed. The dramatic events unravelled over a span of four years, revealing a chilling tale of betrayal and vengeance.
Morgan, a former British inmate, was convicted last month of the murder of Lenny Scott, who had uncovered an illicit affair Morgan was engaging in with another prison officer back in 2020. The affair came to light when Scott stumbled upon a secret cellphone belonging to Morgan during a routine cell search. This discovery ultimately led to Scott’s untimely death at the hands of Morgan.
According to prosecutors from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Morgan had harboured deep-seated resentment towards Scott for exposing his affair. The prosecutors revealed that Morgan had attempted to thwart Scott’s actions by offering a bribe of 1,500 euros to keep the affair under wraps. When Scott refused the bribe, Morgan’s threats escalated, with ominous warnings of seeking revenge in the future.
Morgan meticulously planned his act of retaliation, meticulously stalking Scott at his home and various locations, before cold-heartedly executing his plan outside Scott’s gym in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. The brutal killing on February 8, 2024, saw Morgan shoot Scott, a father of three, six times at close range. Despite turning himself in three weeks later, Morgan initially pleaded not guilty but was later convicted on August 29.
In a statement following the verdict, Wendy Logan, Deputy Head of CPS North West’s Complex Casework Unit, condemned Morgan’s actions as those of a “cold-blooded executioner” fuelled by a thirst for revenge. Logan emphasised the prosecution’s unwavering commitment to ensuring justice was served for Scott and his grieving family.
Describing the murder as an assassination, local police characterised Morgan as a remorseless assailant driven by a warped sense of retribution. Surveillance footage obtained by Sky News captured the chilling moment when Morgan approached Scott and callously ended his life, illustrating the calculated nature of the heinous crime.
During the court proceedings, Scott’s mother, Paula Scott, delivered a poignant impact statement, eulogising her son’s virtues and lambasting Morgan as a despicable perpetrator devoid of remorse or humanity. Paula expressed enduring pride in her son’s integrity and courage, while lamenting the irrevocable loss caused by Morgan’s senseless act of violence.
