A Florida nurse, Alexis Von Yates, has recently taken a plea deal a little over a year after being caught sexually abusing her stepson. Initially charged with sexual battery on a person between 12 to 18 years old, Yates entered a no contest plea to a lesser charge of lewd and lascivious battery on August 21, according to COURT TV and WCJB. The incident in question occurred in July 2024 when Yates was found engaging in sexual activities with her stepson by the boy’s father.

Yates, 34, from Ocala, Fla., had her nursing license suspended following her arrest in November, where she was accused of having sexual relations with the 15-year-old boy without protection while he was visiting his father for summer vacation. The father discovered them in the act, leading to Yates’ subsequent arrest. The details emerged from an arrest affidavit from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by PEOPLE.
During the visit, Yates allegedly made inappropriate comments to the teenager, expressing her desires and making suggestive remarks. She reportedly told the boy that she was “horny” on multiple occasions and expressed a wish for him to be older as he was “not old enough” at the time. The victim’s family agreed to the plea deal as they believed it would provide a sense of justice and spare the child from having to relive the traumatic experience in court.
Following her plea, Yates is set to be sentenced on September 16 as detailed by COURT TV, with further information pending from the Marion County District Attorney’s Office. The victim support services have also been extended to those in need, with resources available for anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse.
Instances of sexual abuse within families are deeply concerning and highlight the importance of addressing such issues promptly and effectively. The impact of such crimes can be long-lasting, with victims requiring support and justice to aid in their recovery. The legal proceedings in this case shed light on the complexities involved in prosecuting and addressing cases of familial sexual abuse. The decision-making process surrounding plea deals and sentencing reflects the intricacies of seeking justice while considering the well-being of the victim. These developments also underscore the need for ongoing efforts to raise awareness, provide support, and advocate for victims of sexual abuse.
As the case progresses, authorities continue to work towards ensuring accountability and seeking justice for the victim. The legal system plays a crucial role in addressing such crimes and upholding the rights of those affected. It is essential to foster a safe environment where individuals feel empowered to report abuse and access the necessary support and resources to navigate the legal process effectively.
