In an exciting development for coffee enthusiasts and health-conscious customers, Starbucks is introducing two new refreshing drinks, Coco Matcha and Coco Cold Brew. Both beverages incorporate coconut water as a key ingredient and will be available in select stores starting from Thursday, August 21.

The Coco Matcha drink boasts a blend of coconut water with a layer of unsweetened Matcha Cold Foam, providing a hint of tropical sweetness over ice. According to Patrick Penny, Starbucks’ beverage developer, the intention is to offer customers a taste of “a tropical escape in a cup.” On the other hand, the Coco Cold Brew features coconut water over ice, topped with a delicious layer of cold brew foam, offering rich chocolaty notes that are sure to delight the taste buds.
To garner feedback from customers and baristas, both drinks were initially tested in a few select locations, including New York City, greater Los Angeles, and Chicago, as well as in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; St. Louis, Missouri; Springfield, Illinois; South Bend, Indiana; and Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. These test runs were part of Starbucks’ innovative “Starting 5” program, where fresh ideas are trialed in specific coffeehouses.
The introduction of the Coco Matcha and Coco Cold Brew drinks aligns with Starbucks’ broader strategy to enhance health and wellness innovation within its product range. This initiative also includes incorporating protein cold foam into their offerings in the upcoming fall season.
In addition to these new coconut water-based beverages, Starbucks has recently rolled out a new line of Strato Frappuccino drinks in three enticing flavors. These unique beverages feature cold foam as a topping instead of the traditional whipped cream, providing customers with a layered coffee experience. From the Brown Sugar Strato to the Strawberry Matcha Strato and the Salted Cream Mocha Strato, each drink offers a distinct flavor profile for coffee lovers.
Furthermore, Starbucks has reintroduced its popular raspberry syrup, offering fans a range of raspberry-infused beverages, including the Raspberry Cream Cold Brew. As summer transitions into fall, customers can look forward to the return of the much-anticipated Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) on August 26, along with other seasonal additions like the Pecan Cortado and the Italian Sausage Egg Bites.
As the coffee giant continues to innovate its menu and cater to diverse tastes and preferences, Starbucks aims to provide customers with a range of options that align with current health and wellness trends. Whether it’s experimenting with new flavours, introducing unique drink combinations, or bringing back seasonal favourites, Starbucks remains committed to offering a diverse and engaging experience for its loyal patrons.
