Lake expressed his excitement at the opportunity to collaborate with The Muppets, stating, “Like so many people around the world, I grew up with The Muppets. To work with them and create new illusions for them has been the most rewarding and surprisingly familiar moment. It’s like I have known them my entire life.” Lake, known as “The World’s Greatest Illusionist,” gained recognition from NBC and was a quarter-finalist on season 13 of America’s Got Talent in 2018. With a background in illusion design for Walt Disney Imagineering, Lake has previously contributed to Broadway productions such as “Death Becomes Her” and various other stage shows, including “Beauty and the Beast” and “Phantom of the Opera.”
The synergy between Lake’s mesmerizing visuals and The Muppets’ timeless humour is expected to create an unforgettable experience for theatregoers. Producers Joe Quenqua and Gareth Lake of Glass Half Full Productions expressed their excitement at the upcoming show, describing it as a dream come true. The production will also feature Lake’s production company, with Wagner Johnson Productions serving as executive producers. Creative consultants Bethany Pettigrew and Kevin Zak will bring their expertise to the production, promising an extraordinary theatrical experience for audiences.
Despite numerous attempts by Jim Henson to bring The Muppets to Broadway in the past, it was not until now that this magical collaboration came to fruition. The last time The Muppets graced the stage was in the 1970s in a live Vegas show alongside Nancy Sinatra.
