A woman from California underwent a traumatic incident that led to her arm being amputated after a tree fell on her during a visit to a mini-golf course. Adela Magaña, aged 53, was at Golf N’ Stuff mini golf course in Ventura with her family on the evening of August 6th. The family had decided on a spontaneous trip to the mini-golf course to celebrate her son’s 13th birthday. Little did they know that the day would end in tragedy.

Magaña was sitting on a bench, watching others play, when a palm tree unexpectedly came crashing down on her. Her son, Junior aged 22, described hearing a screeching sound followed by a loud thump, prompting nearby people to rush to Magaña’s aid. Junior, along with his father Amando and two others, immediately sprang into action to lift the 40-foot tree off his injured mother.

The family quickly applied a belt as a tourniquet to control the bleeding before calling emergency services. Magaña was attended to by the Ventura City Fire Department on-site and then swiftly taken to the Ventura County Medical Center. Medical professionals at the hospital made the difficult decision to amputate her right arm below the shoulder during surgery on August 7th.
It was revealed that the family had not planned to visit the mini-golf course that day; it was a spontaneous decision to add some joy to the son’s birthday celebrations. Unfortunately, the day ended in tragedy, cutting short their plans for a celebratory dinner. Magaña’s daughter, Nancy, acknowledged the challenging road ahead for her mother, who works in an automotive racing products company as a bolts manufacturer. Despite the circumstances, Nancy highlighted her mother’s strength, noting that even in her current state, she shows resilience through nodding her head to communicate.
The aftermath of the incident also impacted Magaña’s youngest son, Damien, who turned 13 on the day of the accident. Witnessing such a traumatic event on his birthday will undoubtedly have a lasting effect on him. The family is now focused on supporting each other through the physical and emotional recovery process.
Following the distressing incident, Golf N’ Stuff mini golf course in Ventura closed temporarily as a precautionary measure. The management shared their commitment to prioritizing the safety of their patrons and announced plans to consult with a licensed arborist before reopening. Kevin Martin, the general manager, expressed sympathy towards the Magaña family and assured that safety remains their top priority moving forward.
The unexpected and tragic turn of events serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of nature. Golf N’ Stuff Ventura reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing safety measures in collaboration with experts to prevent similar incidents in the future. As the Magaña family embarks on the journey towards recovery, the community’s thoughts and prayers continue to be with them during this challenging time.
The incident at the mini-golf course sheds light on the importance of safety protocols in recreational spaces where families gather for leisure activities. It underscores the need for stringent measures to ensure the well-being of visitors and prevent unforeseen accidents that can have lasting repercussions. Amidst the pain and upheaval, the resilience and unity displayed by the Magaña family serve as a testament to the strength found in facing adversity together.
