The loved ones of Liz Hatton, a teenager who tragically lost her battle with cancer in November, have a special request for her upcoming milestone birthday. The family is reaching out to the public to share Liz’s cherished photographs on what would have been her 18th birthday on August 31.

Liz, who bravely fought a rare sarcoma called desmoplastic small round cell tumor, captured the attention of Princess Kate and Prince William as she shared her dream of pursuing photography assignments. Touched by her story, the royal couple invited Liz to photograph an investiture at Windsor Castle. Meeting the royals in a surprise tea party afterwards was a dream come true for Liz and her family.
Following Liz’s passing in 2024, Kate and William honoured her memory by gifting a special rose that now blooms in her family’s backyard in Harrogate, Yorkshire each November in remembrance of Liz. As her 18th birthday approaches, Liz’s mother, Vicky Robayna, is eager for people worldwide to celebrate Liz’s talent by showcasing her photography.
Vicky expressed, “We just want as many people as possible to see her work. If anyone would like one to put up prominently, we’re up to helping with that. People can also share them on their social media.” The family is willing to provide prints of Liz’s images or allow screenshots for sharing. Most of Liz’s captivating photographs can be found on her Instagram, with a new reel set to be released on her birthday.
In addition to the image-sharing initiative, the family plans to release a calendar featuring Liz’s work for purchase, with all proceeds benefiting Capture, a charity they established in Liz’s memory. The funds raised go directly towards research for sarcoma, an underrepresented area in medical research where Liz’s impact continues to make a difference.
On August 31, the family intends to reminisce and celebrate Liz’s life alongside her close friends and relatives. Vicky shared, “We’re going to spend time with family and Liz’s friends and celebrate her birthday in the way that she would have wanted us to do so. Though I’m sure there will be tears, she wouldn’t have wanted us to cry.”
Since their encounter with Liz, Princess Kate and Prince William have been consistent in their support for the family. The royal couple’s unwavering backing has amplified Liz’s story globally, aiding in the family’s fundraising efforts for sarcoma research. Furthermore, community participation in initiatives like Marathon Your Way has garnered significant contributions towards the cause.
Liz’s younger brother, Mateo, has embodied the spirit of charity by engaging in multiple marathons to raise funds for sarcoma research. His inventive approaches to complete the challenge, alongside diverse participant demographics ranging from the blind to traditional runners, exemplify Liz’s inclusive nature and positive outlook on life.
Honouring Liz’s legacy through sharing her passion for photography and charitable initiatives not only preserves her memory but also propels her family’s mission to advocate for sarcoma research. The outpouring of support from individuals worldwide underscores the enduring impact Liz has had, inspiring hope and progress in the fight against rare forms of cancer.
