A 7-year-old boy has suffered what doctors describe as ‘permanent injuries’ after being struck by a falling drone during a festive holiday show. The incident took place at Lake Eola in December 2024, during a drone display that went awry, causing multiple drones to malfunction and veer off-course, breaching the safety perimeter set for spectators.

The boy, who was accompanied by his parents, Jessica Lumedge and Adriana Edgerton, was hit by one of the drones, resulting in severe injuries to his face and chest. The injuries were so serious that the boy had to undergo emergency open-heart surgery. The lawsuit filed by the boy’s mother outlines a range of damages, including past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, disfigurement, disability, and loss of enjoyment of life.
According to reports, the boy spent approximately 10 days in the hospital recovering from his injuries and will require ongoing medical treatment. The lawsuit alleges that the City of Orlando, along with other entities involved in the drone show, should have been aware of the risks associated with using high-risk aerial equipment in public spaces. The National Transportation Board (NTSB) preliminary report highlighted errors in the setup of the drone show, including a misalignment in the safety perimeter.
The lawsuit also points fingers at Sky Elements, the drone manufacturer, and the software developer for negligence and strict liability. Sky Elements has acknowledged the legal action but refrained from commenting further due to the ongoing nature of the case. The city of Orlando has stated that they have not yet been served with the lawsuit.
In response to the incident, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to assist with the boy’s medical expenses, with a fundraising goal of $50,000. So far, the campaign has raised over $36,000, demonstrating the community’s support for the injured child and his family during this difficult time.
