Tracy Anton, a resident of Green, Ohio, was 27 weeks pregnant when the unexpected medical emergency occurred on July 1. After returning home from work, Tracy went to let her dog out, but a sudden turn of events led to her chasing her dog and subsequently suffering from a cardiac arrest. The situation quickly escalated as Tracy collapsed outside her home, catching the attention of her neighbor, Julie, who immediately sprang into action by administering CPR.

In a stroke of luck, a passing nurse also joined forces with Julie in performing life-saving CPR until emergency responders from Green Fire arrived at the scene. Tracy’s 14-year-old stepson, who became concerned when she did not return promptly, stayed by her side throughout the ordeal. Following her stabilisation at Summa Health hospital, Tracy underwent a C-section on July 2 to deliver her baby son, Noah, who was then placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for monitoring.

It wasn’t until three days after the incident that Tracy regained consciousness and was able to comprehend the gravity of the situation. Reflecting on the harrowing experience, Tracy expressed her deep gratitude towards everyone involved in saving both her and her baby, attributing their presence as divine interventions that led to their survival. Tracy’s emotional reunion with the medics who assisted in her rescue took place at the Green Fire Station on August 6, where she shared her profound feelings of gratitude and faith.
During the reunion, Tracy highlighted the miraculous nature of their survival, proclaiming it as a double miracle. She emphasised the significance of the coordinated efforts of all involved, acknowledging them as instrumental in their survival. Julie, the teacher who initiated CPR, recounted the intense moments of uncertainty and fear, underscoring the challenges of translating CPR training into real-life situations.
Green Fire Chief Jeff Funai commended the collaborative efforts that resulted in Tracy and Noah’s successful rescue, affirming the critical contributions of each individual in the chain of response. He praised the swift actions of Tracy’s neighbour in initiating CPR, which laid the groundwork for the team’s subsequent life-saving interventions and the seamless transition of care upon their arrival at the hospital.
Tracy’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the life-saving impact that timely intervention and compassionate care can have in emergencies. Her journey from the brink of tragedy to the joy of new motherhood stands as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of community support in times of crisis. Tracy’s expressions of gratitude and hope serve as a beacon of inspiration, showcasing the enduring bond forged between individuals united in the pursuit of preserving life and celebrating its miraculous moments.
