Rory Alexander, known for his role in the prequel series ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’, recently shared an interesting anecdote involving a stern warning he received from his agent. The actor disclosed to PEOPLE at the premiere of the series that his agent cautioned him about reading the Outlander novels in public, particularly on trains. Alexander vividly remembers his agent’s words: “You’ve got to be careful because people know that something’s in the pipeline, and if the people see you reading Outlander on the tube, someone might put two and two together.”
Despite the cautious advice from his agent, Alexander remained unfazed by the situation. He expressed his disbelief, mentioning, “I said I think that’s a bit of a stretch. I mean there’s plenty of guys with long curly hair who read Outlander that don’t all happen to be in the prequel.” The incident occurred as part of Alexander’s preparation for his role as a younger Murtagh Fitzgibbons in the highly anticipated prequel series.

Before landing the role, Alexander had not delved into the Outlander book series, but his experience with the novels quickly turned him into a fan. Speaking of author Diana Gabaldon’s work, he remarked, “I got through there pretty quickly. Diana did a great job with those.” The Outlander series, comprising nine books with a tenth planned as the conclusion to Jamie and Claire’s story, has captivated readers since its debut with ‘Outlander’ in 1991.
Adapted into a successful TV show by STARZ in 2014, Outlander, starring Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe, has garnered a loyal fan base over seven seasons. The series is now heading towards its final season, based on the ninth novel in the franchise, ‘Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone’. Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for STARZ, expressed excitement for the forthcoming conclusion of Claire and Jamie’s intertwined saga.
With the impending end of the novels and TV show, STARZ embarked on exploring the backstory with ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’. The prequel promises to delve into the lives and relationships of Claire and Jamie’s parents, presenting dual love stories across different time periods. Renewed for a second season six weeks before its debut, the series has already captured audience attention with its promising narrative.
Reflecting on the success of Outlander, the show’s executive producer Matthew B. Roberts expressed enthusiasm for the evolving storylines in the prequel. He highlighted the exceptional dedication of the cast and crew to bring these epic love stories to life. The much-anticipated Outlander: Blood of My Blood is set to premiere its first two episodes on August 8 on STARZ, offering a fresh perspective on the beloved Outlander universe.
